How to Stop Eating at Night by John_Davenport

Eating at night is one of the biggest complaints I hear about from people who are struggling with overeating and weight gain problems. While most of us are able to exert an admirable level of self control during the day, we tend to let ourselves go at night and overeat. The biggest problem is that while we can be diligent in our physical fitness activities and in our careful eating habits, nighttime eating can destroy any weight loss effort and cause the pounds to add on at an alarming rate.

People who tend to eat at night usually don't do it in moderation but overdo it, so you can easily eat a 1,000 extra calories in one nighttime overeating session.

The good news is that you can stop eating at night. Here are some tips to do so:

Don't come home hungry

During the day, you may be limiting yourself to eating very little, while at home you have your favorite stuff and can eat in leisure in your sweatpants or pajamas. The problem is that if you get home after work and you're hungry, you may find yourself making up for it deep into the night. So the first tip to stop eating at night is to not come home famished.

Stop Boredom Eating

During the day we usually have a ton of things to do: work, take care of the kids, run errands, do some chores, while at night we kick back, relax, and... get bored out of our minds. At least some of us do. There's nothing wrong with just taking time to yourself, but boredom is one of the key causes of overeating. If you rely just on the TV to pass the time, you might find yourself fighting cravings like mad. Have something to do which engages the mind, even if it's just painting, sculpting, taking a walk, playing scrabble. Whatever drive the boredom away.

Drink enough water

Nighttime hunger is often the symptom of nighttime thirst. We just don't drink enough water and our body responds by demanding to be filled with water and food. Drinking a glass of water every 60--90 minutes is a great way to stop eating late at night.

Nighttime is an emotional time

Nighttime is an emotional time for most people as it's a lonelier time, more boring time, and a time in which the mind wonders. Emotional eating is one of the major causes of overeating and weight gain. If you often eat while in an emotional state, you need to treat the root cause of your emotions and make them disappear. By doing so, you will stop nighttime eating from the root.
